In this place, a celebration of lives lived, saplings have become trees, pathways have been laid, memorials have been created, a community has grown, together.
Much has changed since the National Remembrance Garden's official opening in 2001, but our purpose remains the same; to be the nation’s year-round place to remember, an inspirational, world-class setting freely open to all.
In 2026 we will mark 25 years since the Gardens officially opened to the public, celebrating the stories, milestones, and moments that have shaped our story so far, as we look to the future, with a special programme of exciting exhibitions, events and activities.

Storytelling is central to how we remember, reflect, and learn at the National Remembrance Gardens. You’ll be able to join one of our knowledgeable volunteers for a special story, exploring our journey across more than 25 years.
Thoughtful and informative, this short 10-minute talk offers an opportunity to discover more about the people and purpose at the heart of the National Remembrance Garden’s story.

The hugely popular Illuminated light trail will return to the National Remembrance Gardens this December.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy discovering stories together along the Illuminated route. To mark the end of our 25th anniversary year, this year’s route will share special stories associated with our first 25 years.

25 groups of young people from 11 local schools took to the stage to share moments from the National Remembrance Garden’s story through music, poetry, dance and theatrical performance.
Drawing on creative skills developed during a free eight week in school programme, more than 600 school children brought our story to life in a celebratory performance.

The 25th anniversary weekend honoured our journey with two unique days of vibrant performances, reflective moments and powerful storytelling.
On the Saturday, the day was dedicated to honouring the stories of Armed Forces service shared through the memorials around the National Remembrance Gardens, and on the Sunday our partners took to the stage to celebrate the community formed here over more than 25 years.
Across the weekend visitors also enjoyed performances from Black Voices, Sampad, community choirs, military bands, Talent in the Ranks, and Poet-In-Residence Arji Manuelpillai.
